HIGHER EDUCATION
There have been significant changes in the higher education sector in the UK in recent years as a result of expansion in participation in higher education, the globalisation of the sector, changes to the funding regime and increasing expectations from policy makers on the role of universities. Higher education institutions are one of the key drivers of the knowledge economy.
PROJECTS
- evaluation of the Joule Centre, a North West Development Agency supported project to develop the energy research base in the north west of England;
- economic impact studies of both ancient research intensive universities (including the University of Aberdeen and the University of Edinburgh) and of modern universities (including Robert Gordon University Aberdeen);
- evaluation of the Northern Way's N8 Research Centres programme which supported the development of five collaborative, industry-focused research centres involving the eight research intensive universities in the North of England based on Ageing and Health, Sustainable Water Use, Molecular Engineering, Regenerative Medicine and Energy;
- multi criteria appraisals of a range of proposed investments by University College Dublin including the Global Ireland Institute, a new data centre, the Sutherland School for Law and the Charles Institute for Dermatology;
- economic appraisals of two proposals by Anglia Ruskin University to establish higher education projects in Peterborough and Harlow;
- economic appraisal and business plan for University Campus Suffolk, a new university campus developed by a collaboration between the University of East Anglia and the University of Essex;
- market assessment and economic appraisal for the University of Edinburgh's Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies of proposals to relocate activities from Edinburgh City Centre to Easter Bush in Midlothian and to increase international student numbers;
- advice to the University of Ulster in support of several research infrastructure bids submitted for Science Research Infrastructure Funding (SRIF);
